Philanthropy trumps the internal pleasure of even the tastiest cup of tea and here at Your Tea, we are passionate about giving back to the world.
As such, we are beyond excited to announce that at the end of each month, a percentage of every individual sale from our website www.yourtea.com will be donated to two chosen charities.
This monthly lump sum derived from sales will be split in half and donated to two carefully selected charities for that particular month.
Via this act, we aim to assist a number of charities directly whilst also raising awareness for a number of issues the chosen charities will represent.
Your Tea is a worldwide organization and given this, we will be selecting a number of charities around the world. Considerable time and research is taken in selecting the charities to ensure both the donated funds are being adequately spent and further more, that their charitable efforts are legitimate.
With many charities in equal need of assistance, rest assured the selection process is not easy! We welcome you along this journey. At the close of each month you will receive an update educating you on the charity your purchase assisted.
Without your help, our donations would simply not be possible and for this, we thank-you from the bottom of our hearts.
Let’s raise our mugs to making a difference in this world... one sip at a time.
The first of two charities we will be donating to this January is the Children's Fortress Africa! Our donation will be used to pay yearly tuition for high school kids in Kenya. The Government of Kenya provides primary education to students, yet high school education is not free. The average annual tuition fee for high school is $300. With 43% of the population living on just $1.25 AU a day, it means many kids miss out on an education that could break the poverty cycle in their lives. We hope our donation towards education will help empower high school kids in Kenya to change their own world.
We wouldn't be able to make these donations without the help of all of our loyal and loving customers - so from the bottom of our hearts thank you for making this possible.
At the conclusion of the month we will send an email out to all of our e-letter subscribers with the exact amount donated and what was done with the funds. Children's Fortress Africa is a non profit organisation and we are very happy to be assisting them with one of many amazing projects they are working on.
Wrap up of donation allocation from The Children's Fortress Africa:
"Your donation has paid for school fees for a year for eleven needy promising children giving them the life changing chance to attend high school for the year, provided a uniform set for eight children (each set contains two uniforms), cleared the arrears school fee debt of 4,600 Kshs for student Dorothy Obiero so she can recommence school, purchased set of text books for six students & purchased orphan former street boy Gideon Makanga with school shoes, and socks.
On behalf of the children you helped and all the team at Children's Fortress Africa we thank you so much!"
Our second chosen charity for the month of January is the Lighthouse Foundation.
Lighthouse Foundation provides homeless young people who come from backgrounds of long term neglect and abuse with a home, a sense of family and around the clock therapeutic care. Through their Lighthouse experience, the young people heal, learn again to relate to others and rebuild their lives.
We will see the money donated for the Lighthouse Foundation spent directly in areas in need.
Stay tuned for the wrap up outlining where our donation was used, including descriptions and photos of what our donations were provided for.
Together with your help - we were able to raise a little under $6000 for the month of February's sales. We raised the figure to $6000 and shared the donation between the two charities below.
The Goodlife Farm
Our donations for the GoodlifeFarm could not have come at a more appropriate time.
An old fence which fenced in 5 of their livestock had fallen - and a new fence had to be replaced without any warning to prepare finances.
Further more, the animal feed bills had been building up which was causing stress on many levels.
With our donations, The GoodlifeFarm was able to pay for the new fence and clear up the feed bill.
This charity receives very little help from the Australian Government and therefore relies heavily on donations.
Lesly, has made it very clear to us that this donation has helped her in more ways we could imagine.
Free the Bears:
We have been able to sponsor 10 bears for 12 months. We will add a further update when we receive information back from this donation.
For the month of March, donations will be collected for PCYC for a camp they plan to take some of their kids within the PCYC program on.
CAMP WRAP UP:
The camp was a huge hit with the kids, here is a wrap up from the team at PCYC who ran the Coral Bay camp:
"PCYC Learning Centre is a program that has been running in the Kimberley Region of North Western Australia since 2011.
Focussing heavily on the health & well-being of teenage boys aged 13-17 that have become disengaged from society.
The Youth involved in these program's can also be associated with low attendance in mainstream schooling and be at risk of being involved in the juvenile justice sector.
When these Life & Skills based camps are implemented- PCYC LC are able to separate the youth from negative, risk taking environments which can be associated when living in town.
Coral Bay Camp gave the PCYC Learning Centre boys, an opportunity to be involved in activities and environments that is simply not feasible when living in town.
The boys were exposed to a glass bottom boat and snorkelling tour on day 3, followed by a "Swimming with Manta Ray's Tour" on day 4.
These tours gave the boys an opportunity to step out of their comfort zone, swim in deeper, colder waters- being surrounded by thousands of marine life in a protected environment.
They were taught the importance of National Marine Parks & how they contribute to the ecosystem.
Given these boys spear many Marine life for food back home- it was interesting but encouraging to see the boys embrace a different way of living".
Our second Charity for the Month of March is again, the Children's Fortress Africa. Our donations will assist in building a library this time - no doubt an extremely valuable resource for these kids. After all, knowledge is power and knowledge is provided via education.
Donation wrap up as communicated via Children's Fortress Africa:
"We have full confidence that we will be able to make the library project work with these funds. We may be able to get some of the books 2nd hand whilst still in good condition which will help the funds go further. We will budget on the librarian at this stage for 6mths and that will also help. Our Kenyan treasurer Elvis and me will also do some of the work like painting which will help. We are very excited and can't wait to share with you the impact you and Your Tea have made"
